Cover Reveal: Legend by Marie Lu

Today Penguin Australia revealed the cover for one of my most anticipated reads this year: Legend by Marie Lu.

The cover above is the Aussie/UK edition.

I LOVE IT

I love the colour scheme ~ light and dark and shadowy and luminous all at once. I love the symbol imprinted in the top left corner. I like the glimpse of the dystopian world ~ and the girl in the combat boots on the cover <3

<-- The US cover of Legend.

I do like the US cover too ~ it's striking in it's simplicity ~ but I think my fave this time is the Aussie cover :)

Which cover do you like best?
Have you read Legend yet? (there are ARCs out there)
Are you planning on reading it?

The blurb of Legend: The United States is gone, along with its flooded coasts. North America's two warring nations, the western Republic and the eastern Colonies, have reached a breaking point. In the midst of this broken continent and dark new world are two teenagers who will go down in history . . .

Born into the slums of the Republic's Lake sector, fifteen-year old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. A mysterious boy with no recorded image or fingerprints. A boy who should no longer exist. A boy who watches over his family until one evening, when the plague patrols mark his family's door with an X - the sign of infection. A death sentence for any family too poor to afford the antidote. Day has no choice; he must steal it.
Born to an elite family in the wealthy Ruby sector, fifteen-year old June is the Republic's most promising prodigy. Obedient, passionate, and committed to her country - until the day her brother Metias is murdered during a break-in at the plague hospital.
Only one person could be responsible.
Day.
And now it's June's mission to hunt him down.
The truth they'll uncover will become legend.

  1. LOL my computer was lagging so it uncovered it bit by bit starting from the top which totally added to the suspense! I love it too! It reminds me of Graceling/Fire (UK) without the fantasy element, just a tiny bit. And the cover looks sweet, I love the way it 'overlooks' the city. It's hard to decide if I like the US or Aussie version better :p thanks for sharing!

  3. I can’t wait to grab my hands on a finished copy. After reading LEGEND I can say that this will definitely capture it well. The US cover I too like it for its simplicity but in a battle of the - not sexes - covers, the AU/UK one will win hands down. I like how they incorporated the Republic emblem in it too.

  5. Oh, I like the Aussie edition MUCH better than the US one! Aussie books are a huge pain to track down here in the States, but this is one I will definitely have to make the effort to find and add to my collection. It's just beautiful.

  7. The hype around Legend has me so excited to check it out! And the Aussie cover *le sigh*. Awesome. I wasn't a fan of the neutral/boring US one, so this one is definitely a winner! :D

  8. I love this cover so much more! For me it is the colour scheme too that makes it standout and all the little details :)

  11. I really love the Aussie cover, and that blurb, wow.

  12. I like the US cover more just because I think it will appeal to a bigger audience. I think boys and girls, men and women will like this book! It's a very hardcore dystopian...at least that's how I described when I wrote my review.

  13. I love it too! I think I prefer this Aussie/UK cover to the US one - the US one is eye-catching but a bit boring if I'm honest.

  14. Ooooh! That Aussie cover looks like a movie poster, and I'd want to go watch it.

  15. I like the Aussie cover better, though I do find the girls pose a bit weird.

:) But I definitely like it more than the US one

  16. OH! Is there any way I can get an Australian copy? I think this cover is SO MUCH MORE GORGEOUS than the US cover!

  17. Oh, I really like the Aussie cover! It's very striking with her silhouetted against the city backdrop, and having the symbol imprint in the sky is very cool. Looks kind of like a movie poster, really!

  19. OMG I can't believe you are following me. Thank you! This grandly improves my day. I had driving lesson this morning. (not good)
You are the first litterature blog I came across and you got me totally hooked. =DD
    I wouldn't be such a YA freak-fan otherwise.

  22. Oh, I like the Australian cover better too. The only thing that I don't like is the working around the title. Makes it look like a movie poster more than a book cover.

  23. Cool. :) It looks like a movie poster. Or a video game poster.

  24. Very cool and futuristic! What was I thinking when I started writing my dystopian? The market is totally glutted right now. BUMMER.

  26. aussie cover wayyyyyyy better. the usa one looks too Hunger Games-ish. the summary sounds INCREDIBLE. cannot wait for this one to come out.

  27. Want. It. So. Bad.

For once I actually prefer the photo cover over the graphical one, but then the American one is way bland. Looks more like an Andy McNab then a YA Dystopia!

    November? Thats aaages away.

  28. I really like both of them but I agree that the US one will probably appeal to a larger audience.

Our copy has two different colors of ink so half of it is written in a goldish hue. I liked that because it kind of color coordinated with the colors of the cover. I wonder if they will do the same for the Aus book?

Either way, it's always cool to see how cover designers and publishers imagine the characters to look:)
