The Piper's Son Aussie v US Cover

Here's the US hard cover for Melina Marchetta's The Piper's Son. Due for release in March 2011. Thanks to A.J for featuring it on her blog :)

US   //  Aussie

What do you guys think?

I'm liking to Aussie one better - more grungy and soulful.

Speaking of the Aussie cover - thanks to the ever-so-cool Jess from The Tales Compendium who pointed out that the model on our Aussie edition is Pete Murray!

His album cover for Feeler

  1. Hahaha, I can't believe I didn't realise that sooner (Piper's Son and Feeler) - now I look and go 'duh'.

I love the Aussie cover, it's one of my favourites :)

  2. I like the Aussie cover more than the US cover. But I have no way of getting the Aussie edition so might as well settle for the US one.

  3. Oh I can't believe that is Pete Murray.

And the Aussie cover is way better :)

  4. The US one looks like it's intended for a slightly younger audience...

I did not know that was Pete Murray! Get out of town!

  5. hahaha - you guys make me feel better for not realising it was Pete Murray as well!

and yes, Danielle, it does look more teenagery and not as sophisticated.

  6. Oh my god, that's Pete Murray! Wow.

And I do think the Aussie cover fits so much better than the US one. But the US one is nice, too.

  7. Aussie cover, hands down!

My friend even said that the US one looks like a poster of a Justin Beiber-ripoff.

    And I agree.

  9. I like the Aussie cover way better! But I have no way of getting it. Is the UK cover different too? My country has the UK edition.

  14. Both are great! I am really drawn to the US one because of the whole band on stage thing. I'm drawn to anything with music. But I think I prefer the Aussie cover overall. I like the whole feel of it a lot.

  15. Aussie all the way!
I also want to say that I don't like the shirt the guy is wearing in the US cover ((or his hairstyle...I know, picky)). Would Thomas wear something like that? Seems kind of...dorky. >.>;; Maybe that's just me, but hey, it's not like I've read the book yet. haha I am glad, though, that they actually put a real person on the US cover. Thought they would do what they did for Finnikin cover. :p

  17. The Aussie cover for sure. Like you said, it's soulful :D

I do like the US cover but only for the background. The lights that are hitting the model onstage look misty and ethereal to me. o.O But that's about all I like from the US cover, lol.

  18. Yeah, I heard Melina talking about the cover on Triple J a few months ago.

I definitely prefer the Aussie cover. Perhaps I'm biased, but I usually think the Aussie covers are better.

  19. I liked the US cover a bit more...until someone pointed out that it looked like a Justin Beiber ripoff. It looks ok though. :D The Aussie one definitely looks a bit more deep.

  20. I like the Aussie cover, especially knowing it's Pete Murray. Amazing how many different covers there are for the same books. You should look at The Book Thief!

Saw your comment over at Emy's I think. Hope NaNo is picking up for you..:)

  21. Australian cover hands down. The AUS one looks darker, more melancholy and more thoughtful, while the US one was all, "cheesy rockstar with lights!" to me.

  22. love the Aussie one much better. love a good b&w photo and that one has more of an emotional impact for me than the US one.

  23. This is so funny! I'm laughing right now because before this post, I thought he Aussie cover was pretty bad, and now I see everyone loves it. I actually feel like if I read it the book would end up being this awkward, confusing, emotional mess with a bad ending, while the US version makes me think the book is worth a read. Talk about judging by the cover!

  24. own and love the aussie cover!

  25. I'm going with the Aussie cover as well. The whole dusty road in black and white with handsome man flesh is really too hard to beat. Great Post :)
