Highlights of my reading year so far (Top 6 Faves)

Yesterday I shared a bunch of highlights from my reading year so far. I tried to make a top ten, but I found it so hard to narrow things down and my list kept overflowing all over the place. However, I wanted to highlight six books that I just really loved:

Two Aussie YA Books

My review of Haze I just love Gaby and Rafa and the way Weston has created her world. So much sexual tension and mystery and reveals and twists and emotion. A really fun, addictive read.

My review of Wildlife Wood's writing is amazing. I fell in love with her character's and I know this book will be a lifelong fave <3

Two Australian adult fiction

My review of Paper Chains I loved the whimsy and the depth of sorrow all mingled up in this one.

My review of The Husband's Secret Oh my gosh, this book by Liane was just so. good. She's amazing and brilliant and my perfect kind of writer.

Two debuts <3 (One contemporary YA and one UK contemporary)

My review of If He Had Been With Me LOVED. I've already reread this.

Swimming at Night. (haven't reviewed!). I love how Clarke captured this story. The travel. The sisters. The travel journal. The surf. Australia! Bali! The foreshadowing and twists and mystery and reveals. A gorgeously written debut, can't wait for more :)

So there's my top 6 faves so far. I also have a post coming up this week on books I am really looking forward to in the second half of this year. So much goodness coming up!

If you had to pick one book you loved this year to recommend to me, what would it be?

  5. I have just started IF HE'D BEEN WITH ME. After a rocky start I'm really loving it.

I am counting down till HAZE and THE HUSBANDS SECRET come out here.

I'd probably say my favourite read this year has been YA THE MOON AND MORE by Sarah Dessen and adult THE CHOCOLATE KISS by Laura Florand. It is the second in her chocolate series and just great, swoon and Paris and chocolate!

  6. I loved Paper Chains soooo much! Can't wait to read The Husband's Secret ... those Moriarty girls are so darned talented. And I'm adding Swimming At Night to my reading list, we've just come back from Bali so how can I resist :)

You've already picked up The Sea Of Tranquility which I adored so I'll go with something else from my stack of amazing reads this year - Kate Forsyth's The Wild Girl or in YA Shana Abe's The Sweetest Dark.

  7. One book?!! That's tough. I think the book/series I've been most obsessed with this year is The Opportunist & Dirty Red by Tarryn Fisher. It's self-published and brilliant. Dark Triumph and Sins & Needles were also amazing, IMO.

I heard If He Had Been With Me is really sad. I'm a little nervous to pick that up. I really want to read Shadows and Haze, as I've heard nothing but great things about that series. :)

  8. I see on your sidebar that you enjoyed Love & Leftovers. I loved that one as well. I think I marked a few of my favorite verses and they were quite steamy! :)

  9. Yay, so glad that you got your reading mojo back! Got a few more recs from you, which is what I love about visiting your site. I haven't had a very good record this year for hitting the amazing books (aside from the ones you've rec'd or given to me). If you like middle grade adventure (maybe your son does?) then I'd recommend Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer.

My best rec from this year is Code Name Verity. I love the WW2 era, and it was a beautifully written captivating book. :0)
